MP Kram Slams Liberals’ Attacks on International Students

For immediate release August 24, 2023 MP Kram Slams Liberals’ Attacks on International Students Regina-Wascana MP Michael Kram today spoke out against Housing Minister Sean Fraser’s comments about the international student visa program. On Monday, Fraser said that the Trudeau government was considering capping international student visas because the program was contributing to housing shortages in major centres such as Toronto and Montreal. “This is typical of the one-size-fits-all, Toronto-centric approach of the Liberals,” Kram said. “They assume that if something is bad for Toronto, it must be bad for all of Canada.” Kram noted that the international student program is a net benefit to Saskatchewan’s post-secondary institutions. “International students make a major contribution not only to the social and academic fabric of Saskatchewan's post-secondary institutions but also to their financial sustainability. Furthermore, both universities have ample on-...

MP Kram Slams Trudeau’s “Bubble Boy” Tour

For immediate release  April 13, 2023    MP Kram Slams Trudeau’s “Bubble Boy” Tour Regina-Wascana MP Michael Kram today described Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s visit to Saskatchewan as “insular, tone-deaf and self-congratulatory.”  “The prime minister’s visit to our city was as sterile and risk averse as a COVID office party. Every event was carefully staged and rigged to ensure that the prime minister’s ears would never be contaminated by the feelings, needs and concerns of real Saskatchewan people,” Kram said.  Kram noted that Trudeau carefully avoided talking about any issues that matter to Saskatchewan residents.  “It is difficult to fully describe the prime minister’s detachment from reality. He pretends that the few hundred dollars offered through his GST rebate are a fix for inflation when it doesn’t even cover half the inflation cost being carried by low- and middle-income families. On CBC, he tried to deny and gaslight about ...

MP Kram Launches ‘Save RCMP Depot’ Campaign

For immediate release  Wednesday, April 12, 2023  MP Kram Launches ‘Save RCMP Depot’ Campaign Member of Parliament Michael Kram today launched a website and online petition in support of RCMP Academy, Depot Division. Last week, the Mass Casualty Commission investigating the 2020 Nova Scotia shootings recommended that Depot be eliminated and replaced by a Canadian Police College elsewhere in the country.   “There is no minimizing the 2020 Nova Scotia tragedy nor the importance of the Mass Casualty Commission’s work. However, while the report may have had some good recommendations, I would not be the first to observe that its recommendation to close Depot was a significant over-reach,” Kram said.   "I hate to talk in cliches but there are two that perfectly describe this recommendation: Throwing the baby out with the bathwater and reinventing the wheel. RCMP Depot in Regina is a world-class police training facility. To dismantle it in order to build n...

Statement by Regina MPs Warren Steinley, Michael Kram, and Andrew Scheer on the Recommendations of the Nova Scotia Inquiry

For Immediate Release March 31, 2023  Statement by Regina MPs Warren Steinley, Michael Kram, and Andrew Scheer on the Recommendations of the Nova Scotia Inquiry  First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the 22 families who lost loved ones during the horrific tragedy in Nova Scotia three years ago. We hope the Mass Casualty Commission report has brought the families the closure and justice they deserve.   Regarding the report’s recommendations, Regina‘s Conservative MPs are deeply concerned about the recommendation to close the RCMP training Depot division in Regina and build new facilities elsewhere. We are not convinced that changing the location of the training facility would improve RCMP incident response.   RCMP Depot in Regina is a world-class police training facility. More than that, we have seen first-hand the impact of Depot on our city. Recruits support important cultural and charitable work in the community by helping ...

Carbon Tax "Bleeds Small Business Dry": MP Kram

Carbon Tax "Bleeds Small Business Dry": MP Kram  Michael Kram, MP for Regina Wascana, today in Ottawa accused the Liberal government of "exploiting and suffocating" small business with its carbon tax policies.  Kram referenced a report released today by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business which showed that small businesses pay roughly 50 per cent of carbon taxes yet retuned next to nothing to them.  "This supposedly revenue-neutral tax is nothing of the sort. It has become a cash cow for the Liberals who are trying to bleed small businesses dry. When I was on the Industry and Technology Committee, a Liberal member of the committee explicitly said that the whole point of the tax was to inflict pain on small business," Kram said.  "Unlike big business, small businesses can't afford lobbyists, don't have access to carbon offsets, have less flexibility to reduce their energy use and don't have many friends in the Liberal caucus. T...

The campaign raised almost $ 11,000 , enough for the food bank to generate well over 30,000 meals .  “ Inflation has hit almost every Canadian household hard but before I began this campaign , I was not fully aware of the extent of the problem . The most surprising information I learned was that , because of inflation , the food bank is seeing more and more fully - employed working families coming to them for help , " Kram said .  At the beginning of the campaign , Kram had stated that the urgency of this need cut across partisan considerations and challenged other politicians as well as the general public to get on board with the campaign .  " In addition to the money raised , I am pleased with the spirit of community unity that th...
