Kram the Food Bank Raises Over 30,000 Meals For Those in Need

Michael Kram, MP for Regina-Wascana today concluded his Kram the Food Bank fundraising drive on behalf of the Regina Food Bank. The campaign raised almost $11,000, enough for the food bank to generate well over 30,000 meals

Inflation has hit almost every Canadian household hard but before I began this campaign, I was not fully aware of the extent of the problem. The most surprising information I learned was that, because of inflation, the food bank is seeing more and more fully-employed working families coming to them for help," Kram said

At the beginning of the campaign, Kram had stated that the urgency of this need cut across partisan considerations and challenged other politicians as well as the general public to get on board with the campaign

"In addition to the money raised, I am pleased with the spirit of community unity that this campaign generated. We had many people come by our office who stated plainly that they did not support me or my party but that they nonetheless felt that this was an important initiative. Any time we can get people of different political stripes working together for a common goal I feel we are achieving something that's very positive for everyone involved.

Kram emphasized that efforts could not stop with this or any other food bank campaign

"I know that Regina Food Bank Executive Director John Bailey agrees with me when I say

that I wish that food banks did not exist. In a country as wealthy as Canada, there is no reason why they should exist. We need to get to the root causes of spiralling inflation. and other causes of food insecurity. My role, as an Opposition MP, will be to continue to challenge the government to be accountable and to address these issues that are driving more and more working Canadians to rely on food banks to feed their families.
