CBC News: Retired teacher tickled by tribute from Sask. MP in House of Commons
Most seven-year-olds have big ideas about what they want to be when they grow up.
Perhaps a doctor, an astronaut or a professional athlete.
But it’s unlikely most of them will go on to do their childhood dream job.
Regina-Wascana Conservative MP Michael Kram, 47, is an exception.
He decided to become a politician 40 years ago, when his Grade 2 teacher, Mrs. Rose Klein, did a simulated election in her social studies class.
So when Kram stood up in the House of Commons on April 24 to talk about amendments to the Canada Elections Act, and his disdain for long-ballot protests, he seized the opportunity to pay tribute to Klein.

"Mr. Speaker, I would like to start this morning by thanking my Grade 2 social studies teacher, Mrs. Rose Klein. It was many election cycles ago when I was in her class, which is where I first learned about elections," he said.
He went on to say Klein's impact on him "speaks to the importance of having positive role models in one's life."
The tribute came just as Klein celebrated her 90th birthday.
The retired teacher was drinking birthday champagne in a hot tub in Canmore, Alberta, when a friend emailed her a link to the video.
When she got back to Edmonton, where she now lives, and watched Kram’s tribute, she declared it the best birthday present ever.
